Messe Basel at a glance
Messe Basel is a central exhibition venue in Switzerland and an important trade fair location in Europe, with modern halls and an international audience. Its most prominent events include Art Basel (art), ILMAC (laboratory and process technology), Swissbau (building & real estate) and IGEHO (hotel, restaurant & catering).
The grounds at Messeplatz 10 are served by tram lines 1, 2 and 8 (Messeplatz stop) and are also accessible by train and car.
What to consider for a stand at Messe Basel
- Approval by the organiser: In Basel, the stand design guidelines of the respective event apply. Stands over 50 sqm and structures above the zone-dependent building heights (roughly 4 to 9 m depending on stand position) must be approved by the organiser.
- Submission deadlines: The deadline differs per fair; for Swissbau 2026, for example, it was the end of September 2025. The current guidelines of Messe Basel or the respective organiser are authoritative.
- Lead time: System stands at least 8 weeks before the fair opens, ideally 10–12 weeks; custom builds at least 16 weeks, ideally 20–24 weeks.
- Customs clearance: EXFAIR's workshop and storage are in Germany. EXFAIR handles approval and DE–CH customs clearance from a single source.
- Storage: Storing the stand in Villingen-Schwenningen saves customs effort and transport costs for every Basel trade fair appearance.

Swiss companies, for example from Zurich, Bern or Basel, as well as exhibitors from Austria and other European countries commission EXFAIR for their appearance at Messe Basel. EXFAIR handles DE–CH customs clearance and agrees approvals with the organiser.
Arriving from abroad: From EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg take bus 50 to Basel SBB station, then tram 1 or 2 to Messeplatz; about 15 minutes by car. From Basel Badischer Bahnhof it is two stops on tram 2 or 6.
